Iggy Discovers USB (pay per click advertising) Networking

By Erwin Pope

My new laptop is fantastic, with it’s nice new squeaky-clean operating system it runs like a dream. But it wasn’t long before I had to face the technical challenge of getting all my old data from my old desktop computer (which was bursting at the seams with data!) onto my new laptop.

I was also intending to format and give away my old computer, so I could not afford to lose any of this data in the process.

I sat down at my old computer and listed all of my important files to assess exactly what and how much data I needed to transfer over to the new laptop.

Including my pictures, MP3’s, Office documents, work backup’s and so on, I was looking at transferring about 20 Gigabytes worth of data, it seems to build up so quickly! Thank goodness for my new laptop’s 100 Gigabyte Hard Drive, which will allow me to transfer all of my data to it and still have room for a lot more. I know that the main application programmes (Word, Excel and so on) from my old computer will all have to be reinstalled on to the new laptop from their original install disks, but how do I get all the rest of the data over to the new laptop?

Floppy disk? - no way, even if my laptop had a floppy disk drive I would need about 14,000 disks!

CD or DVD? - Both my new laptop and my old computer have CD ROM drives, to get all my data over using CD’s I would need about 30 disks as well as some software to package all the data up nice and tidily across the 30 disks, viable but a lot of work and time needed. DVD’s would be better but my old computer does not have a DVD drive! There must be an easier way.

USB Memory Stick? - Not really a viable option, the maximum capacity of the USB Memory Stick that I can afford is 512MB, so this would require about 40 swaps from the old computer to the new and as my old computer is only USB1.1 which transfers at 1.5 mega bytes this process is going to be possible but really slow.

Networking? - Apparently I could network my two machines together with a “Cross Wired Network lead” and a copy of “Networking Computers for Dummies”, but unfortunately my old dinosaur of a computer does not have a network card! Network cards are cheap enough but I still don’t want to spend any money on this old computer and really don’t fancy fiddling around inside the desktop. Although it does sound good to be able to connect the two computers together and transfer the data through the cable.

This is when I came across a very handy cable called a USB Data Link Cable. Apparently I can just plug one end into the USB port on my old PC and the other end into the USB port on my new laptop and then as if by magic, I should have a USB Network between both computers. Now this sounds more like it! Both my computers have USB ports and even though my old computer is USB1.1 and my new laptop is USB2.0 the cable should work anyway, although the transfer rate will only be at the lower USB1.1 speed.

After finding more about this cable on the Internet I found out that it is also known as a USB File/Data Transfer Cable. Once connected, the transfer of data is done quickly and effortlessly by simply dragging and dropping files from one window to another, just as you normally would when moving files around on your system. So I ordered one online right away.

The USB Data Transfer Cable arrived the next day and I got down to the business of getting the thing to work, the hardest part was working out the blatantly “translated” instructions. All I had to do was install the included software from the CD, once only on each of my computers, then plug the cable into a USB port on each computer and run the software. Two Windows Explorer type windows appeared, one showing files on the laptop and the other showing files on the PC, then I simply dragged and dropped files between the two computers.

I was amazed, this USB cable solution was fantastic. It was so easy to set up and turned out to be the cheapest option by far at only 15 and much less hassle than any other option, almost too good to be true, magic!

When Home Surveillance Really Proves Its Worth

By Moses Holder

A friend is a friend in time of need. When you live alone, home surveillance will take care of your security. Play it right and you’re alright.

Silent walls have stories to tell

When you go to work, are you confident about leaving your valuables and pet at home? You may hide your gems under lock and key and your dog inside the house. But would you have any idea who was inside your home while you were out? As a single girl living alone in the big city, home surveillance should be your best friend.

Young women looking for the big break in the metro should not gamble with their security. Even with the security of the padlock and multiple locks, there is the fat chance that an intruder may break in and cart away your prized possessions. A home surveillance system could capture the thief’s image and you can identify him in the police line-up.

Young women who have been murdered in the safety of their apartments cannot come back to tell what happened to them, and the walls will remain mute and their stories remain untold. It wouldn’t be nice to be another statistics because you reneged on buying yourself some protection.

Armed and wired

If you latch on to the computer, you can browse the different home surveillance equipments suited for your place. You need not spend a fortune for a surveillance system. You can opt for the two-way intercom for the all entry ways to your place. Some unwisely neglect the back door where wily thieves gain entry.

A fixed camera on the back door can be a comforting thought when you are alone in the apartment in the evenings. Wire your IP ready camera to your PC and monitor all areas with your quad monitor. One glance at the monitor you will know what’s going on at the back door, kitchen and your bedroom.

To fortify your home surveillance get armed. Also, have your mobile phone on the ready and inspect all locks before retiring. Call your parents back home and tell them you are safe in your apartment. At least they’ll know you are okay. If you are strict about your safety, never admit late night visitors unless they are your kith and kin.

Smart surveillance

Surveillance is not always about the enemy. It could also be a convenient way to check up on the house when there is a heavy downpour. Is the basement flooding? Are the shutters safely locked? Is the dog running through the rug? You can check all these out even when you are at work.

Home surveillance need not be expensive. You can maximize your PC and your cellphone. Save thousands of dollars by just setting up a USB connected webcam for less than $50, and get two cameras for about $200 dollars a piece. If you have a few hundred dollars more, get a PC-based surveillance system.

The credit card should come into good use; this is the best purchase you can make with the plastic card.

When living in the big city, make home surveillance your best friend and never settle for less.

Making Money Consistantly with Online Auctions

By Erwin Pope

If your business is not using eBay and other Internet auctions, you could be missing out. Here are just a few ways of generating additional income, profits and cashflow from online auctions.

1. Convert Excess Assets to Cash

Sell personal or business items that you no longer use. For example, are there slow moving inventory

items in your store? A major camera store chain sells their slow movers, quite successfully, through eBay.

2. Buy and Sell Anything

Sometimes people put things out in the garbage because they dont need them anymore and dont know anyone who could use them. You can successfully sell some of these items by Internet auction.

As well, if you pick up bargains from garage sales, flea markets, importers, wholesalers, closeout dealers or other sources, these items can also be sold through online auctions.

3. Drop Shipping

There are suppliers who will ship one item at a time for you. You dont have to stock any inventory. You simply pay your dropship supplier out of the money you receive from your auction sale. They will ship the product directly to your customer.

4. Self-Publishing

Do you have expertise in a specialized area of interest to people? Then, you could publish your own information product.

A very popular format for self-publishing information products is the electronic book (or e-book). E-book compilers, some of which are free, are readily available on the Internet. When people buy your e-book, they can download it from your website or receive it by e-mail.

You could sell such self-published information products on eBay and other Internet auction sites.

Incidentally, online auctions are an inexpensive method of testing the market for your information (or other) products.

5. Reprint and Resale Rights

You may not want to produce your own information products presently. Or, perhaps, you may already

have an information product, but would like to supplement your income with additional, related product offerings. This is where reprint and resale rights come in.

You can buy the rights to reprint or resell excellent information products created by other people. Some of these rights are inexpensive.

In addition to selling these products from your own website, you can use Internet auctions to create extra sales. Another advantage of online auctions is that they can create additional traffic for your website.

6. Sell Your Services

Do you design logos or websites? Do you sell consulting or other services? These, also, can be successfully sold through eBay and other auction sites.

7. Run an eBay Consignment Shop

There are still people who dont have a computer or who dont use eBay. You could sell on a consignment basis for them, taking a commission on the successful sale. You would need to charge for advertising expenses incurred, such as eBay listing and selling fees.

8. Promote Affiliate Programs through Auctions

Some affiliate programs have brandable e-books that contain your affiliate link. When people order from the e-book that they bought from your online auction, you get credit for the sale. As well, some of those purchasers may sign up as affiliates, earning you additional commissions.

Some of these e-books have valuable information that is worth the nominal value you would sell it for on eBay. In other cases, such an e-book is readily available for free. In this latter case, you might consider selling another related product and offer the e-book as a free bonus.

9. Supply Fellow Online Auctioneers

During the gold rush days, it is said that those who sold picks and shovels were more likely to make money than those panning for gold. Similarly, since there is such a big market for online auctions, you can make money supplying eBayers with information and auction tools to help them start and grow their own online auction business.

10. Internet Auction Consulting

As you gain experience and expertise in online auctions, you might consider charging for your knowledge.

Consulting services, seminars, information products and other ways of packaging your knowledge can earn you additional income streams.

These are just a few of the ways you can profit from Internet auctions.

Customer Service Is Key In Selecting A Web Host Provider (pay per click services)

By Kurtis Rivers

When choosing a web-hosting provider, there will be tons of questions you need answered before settling on the service that is right for you. Most often, when dealing with customer service, there tends to be a conflict of interest. Of course, they are trying to sell a service to you, so their ultimate goal is to make their web hosting features sound much better than the next choice.

Some companies will even stretch the truth just to attract business. For these customer service representatives, it is all about securing the deal and achieving a sale. But, what about the customer? In the long run, it is actually detrimental for businesses to lure a customer under false, misinformed or vague pretenses. If customer needs are not successfully satisfied or the company doesn’t deliver as promised, consumers are sure to place negative feedback and spread the word about their experiences.

Customer service is put into place to help customers make the decisions that are right for them. Just because a company offers low prices, doesn’t mean it will provide the proper services that a particular customer needs. They may need specific features to achieve all of their Internet goals and desires. It is the responsibility of customer service to make sure that all inquiries are answered with customer satisfaction in mind.

As a customer, familiarizing yourself with the ins and outs of web hosting providers and services is quite beneficial. Arming yourself with relevant knowledge will help you pinpoint the type of questions you need to ask a customer representative when searching for a service. How will you be able to comparison shop if you don’t even know some of the basics of web hosting? There are numerous aspects of choosing a web-hosting provider that you should take into consideration. Below you will find a few areas of web hosting to keep in mind when researching web-hosting companies:

Email: Having access to more than one email account through a web hosting company is quite desirable. Good questions to ask customer service regarding email is how many accounts you will receive. Will they provide a catch-all account? Will there be any limitations to the space per account or the size allowed for attachments?

Disk Space and Bandwidth: The answers to questions pertaining to these topics will determine your limitations regarding website space and Internet traffic. Ask web hosting customer service reps how many sub-domains are allowed. How much hard disk space will you receive? How much maximum bandwidth?

Information Protection: For some, backing up information is extremely important. A potential customer will want to know if a web-hosting provider has any backup policies. Will it cost additional fees to retrieve these backups, if offered? How many times during a week, month or year are files backed up?

Knowing a little bit about related web hosting topics before approaching customer service allows you to get the most out of your questions. In the end, with the help of a reliable customer service rep with good intentions, you may or may not choose a particular web hosting company for your business.

Are You Aware of All of The Infrared Camera Applications Available?

By Arnoldo Watson

The infrared camera might as well be the next James Bond. Not only is it as suave and versatile, it is also as ingenious. It has a wide array of uses for different types of applications and industries.

Here are a few of the different infrared camera applications.

Picture-perfect

Photography is one infrared camera application we see every day. Infrared cameras help you take the perfect shot because they show unusual tonality that is so distinctive from that of regular cameras. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however. While some photographers would rhapsodize over the pictures taken through this particular infrared camera application, others might run out of the darkroom screaming.

Termite Terminator

Seasoned building inspectors can very well appreciate this type of infrared camera application. Sick of termites? Infrared cameras may be used to look for them. With the use of infrared cameras, inspectors can check for termite presence in the electrical and plumbing systems of your house.

Driving Duty

The automobile industry benefits from this infrared camera application. BMW automakers recognize the power of infrared cameras. They developed the Pathfinder, which is located in the grill and powered by the car’s battery. This technology can be used to help drivers see beyond the range of the headlights.

Transformer Checker

Not only do infrared cameras improve car vision, they can also be used to check on transformers. Infrared camera application of this type helps utility firms identify transformers that are on the verge of exploding.

Doctor, Doctor!

Diagnostics is one infrared camera application that has been seeing much use in clinics and hospitals. Infrared cameras may be used to check internal organs and minute parts of our body. They can probe where no one and nothing else could.

Space Cadet

One common infrared camera application lies beyond the stars. NASA used infrared cameras to learn more about space. In particular, they use infrared cameras to gather information about stars.

Everyday Security

Beefing up day-to-day security is yet another common infrared camera application. With the use of infrared cameras, security detail can sweep people and areas for dangerous weapons, bugs, and the like. This type of infrared camera application sees the most use in airports, borders, dams, and nuclear power plants.

The many infrared camera applications enumerated above are but a few of the many uses of infrared technology. There is no doubt that in the years to come, the list will continue to expand faster than you could say, “infrared!”

Cheap Software Discounts - A Little Less Flash, A Lot More Savings

By Kurtis Rivers

Through cheap software discounts, people can obtain computer programs that will help them find cheap, discounted travel opportunities that are available through Internet cruise ship companies. For the price of a yearly membership, these cheap software discounts might include a code that can be entered to get a room upgrade, or provide you with an extra day of cruising at no cost.

Business travelers benefit all the time from cheap software discounts that they accessed through their I-pod while traveling. These cheap software discounts can find them coupons to save them money on meals, provide them with hotel discounts information, and save them money on downloads to update their mapping programs installed on their car GPS navigational systems.

Being able to use computer software programs to save you money, makes cheap software discounts very attractive. These cheap software discounts might represent a less graphic and cheaply produced computer program for public use that will do the same function as a higher-priced computer program. Consumers are interested in only saving money, and if they have to trade graphic quality for the opportunity to save hundreds of vacation dollars, then they do not mind that a bit.

There are cheap software discounts offered on astrology software, office layout designing software, cell phone ring tone installation programs that are perfect for your I-pod personal digital device, and discounts on musical interfaces for piano keyboard platforms.

There is cheap software discounts, that can be computer generated at home through their home computer printer. These cheap software discounts are offered through discount codes to use on purchasing computer systems and printers. These discount codes are entered into retail computer systems at the cash register, and can save you an additional $50 on a printer you were planning to buy anyway.

Low price guarantees are another form of cheap software discounts that businesses use to get you in their store to shop. If managers can generate sales by offering people a software generated 25% off coupon on one item, then those cheap software discounts found at the register are warranted.

When customers get the chance to save on products in any category of the store, then the cheap software discounts will mean simply fast savings that they can benefit from more than once, if other family members check out separately and get the same cheap software discounts at the register.

Getting cheap software discounts does not mean that the product you are getting is cheap and ill-made. These cheap software discounts only mean that you are saving a lot of money by choosing to purchase the items that are low priced, discounted and readily available to meet your needs.

Some of these cheap software discounts can be found at resale shops. Retail establishments and specialty stores routinely fall victim to a slow economy and go out of business. The excess inventories that remained on their shelves are purchased by the truckload by savvy resale owners who sell you the manufacturer software at a very low, cheap software discounts price that you could not find anywhere else.

By Bruce Shaw

People that visit Canada sometimes have time to relax in their hotel rooms and use the Internet services provided to see what shopping interests can be found in the town they are visiting for a short time. These visitors are amazed by all of the Canadian Internet shopping choices in front of them as they stare at the computer screen.

Canadians are provided numerous Canadian Internet shopping choices through online hosting sites that feature Internet shopping malls as their preferred clients. These online retail establishments are just as colorful, if not more, than the brick retail buildings that vacationers routinely shop at in their hometowns.

To provide a wide variety of Canadian Internet shopping choices, these Internet shopping mall managers are continually adding retail shopping establishments to their shopping mall locations on a daily basis. Some of these shopping malls will provide Canadian Internet shopping choices in a convenient, easy-to-understand list that identifies these new retailers by name.

The Canadian Internet shopping choices are identified through Internet hyperlinks too. With the speed of selection offered by these links, vacationers and visitors from around the world can click their computer mouse and be transported from one shopping mall retail website to another in no time at all.

Some of these shopping mall retailers are companies that you would recognize by their name and will always offer great discounts at any time of the day or night. These well known companies are the same ones that you shop at from the comfort of your home. The Canadian Internet shopping choices they offer might include shipping to the United States and all other areas of the world using trusted shipping companies, and at very affordable prices.

For lesser known retailers, the discounts they offer are typically competitive with the well known shopping mall retailers. Their prices can sometimes run neck to neck with these large competitors. Do not count these retailers out just because they are small. They can save you just as much money at times, because they do want your business.

The Canadian Internet shopping choices found in shopping malls might seem like a brick shopping malls sometimes. These business locations have colorful marquee banners that closely resemble the storefronts that any business might choose to have mounted over their front door in a bricked in location.

The benefits of shopping online through the Canadian Internet shopping choices, is that the categories of the items that you are interested in are readily identified by web page formatting techniques that makes your selection easy to understand, and very easy to locate. Some of your Canadian Internet shopping choices might be categories such as office and business, food and drinks, or flowers and gifts.

The true Canadian Internet shopping choices are offered by the benefits of being able to shop privately and linger over your pending purchase decisions for however long you need without being interrupted by store salesmen who are seeking a commission on your shopping interests. Canadian Internet shopping choices allow you to change your mind, and revisit the store when you are ready to make a purchase without having to explain why you failed to make a purchase that day.

Credit Card Give Aways - Can You Cash In?)Can you make money giving away credit cards? Giving away credit cards is the basis of a brand new type of home

By Bruce Shaw

business stand out are that it is not multi-level marketing (MLM), you don’t have to do any cold-calling, you don’t have to sell anything you don’t have to make a monthly purchase or pay fees to remain a member of the business, and you don’t have to recruit other people into the business to make money.

So, back to the original question: can you make money giving away credit cards? I’d like to show you the answer by asking you to consider these, three questions:

1. How many people do you know who have at least one credit card?

2. How hard do you think it must be to get along without a credit card?

3. How easy do you think it would be to give a credit card to someone who wants one?

Nowadays practically everything we pay for calls for a payment card of some kind. Things that spring to mind are restaurant bills, purchases made online, vacation bookings, clothing purchases, grocery bills. Checks used to be an option but they are no longer accepted in many places; paper has been replaced by plastic for most everyday purchases. It is easy to see that credit card transactions offer a method of payment which is convenient to both the seller and the spender.

Most people who use a credit card own more than one card to enable them to get the maximum interest-free period on their purchases. Some people make a habit of changing to a different credit card company whenever there is a special offer such as a low interest rate, or a favourable deal on balance transfers, or some other promotional deal.

Other people who will be on the lookout for a credit card are those who have been refused credit. This might happen to people who have previously run into trouble with a credit card company during a period of unemployment. Students and graduates who have no credit history find it hard to find a credit card company willing to offer them credit facilities.

The most unfortunate group of people who can’t get a credit card when they need one are victims of identity theft (also known as identity fraud). They can find that they have been blacklisted for credit even though they are completely innocent of any crime. Once adverse credit references get into the system, it can take years for a victim of identity fraud to have their records corrected and their credit lines restored.

Anyone who doesn’t have a credit card (for whatever reason) is limited to carrying sufficient cash to cover any purchases they might want to make, or to using a cash card to have the money taken straight out of their bank account. Carrying large sums of cash is never a good idea because it is unlikely to be recovered if it gets lost or stolen. Cash debit cards are fine as long as you have enough money in your bank account to cover your spending; debit cards take away any possibility of deferring payments for anyone on a tight budget who needs a little leeway to juggle funds.

There is no doubt that credit cards are an in-demand product and it is easy to see how a home business based on giving people what they want is almost bound to be successful. With comparatively little effort, and working part-time it is possible to earn a healthy monthly income from giving away credit cards.

Benefits of Cell Phone Shopping Outlets

By Bruce Shaw

People tend to migrate toward any type of retail outlet mall location. The distance that the retail outlet location is insignificant when compared to the money that is saved by shopping with these discount driven merchants. There are a wide assortment of clothing outlets there that will save families big dollars in their family clothing budgets, but it is the cell phone shopping outlets that have the largest traffic, because the items they sell are so affordably priced.

These cell phone shopping outlets are not the typical retail establishment that is set up and maintained by any one cell phone provider. They are not there to provide people with a way to pay their cell phone bill, or provide repair services for cell phones that become inoperable. They are there, however, to provide you with the best possible cell phone shopping outlets shopping experience in your local area.

The cell phones and accessories will cover every area of wall space that is available, and it is quite an over-whelming sight to experience. The vast array of color choices, phone styles and accessories available for every manufactured cell phone on the market is right before your eyes.

This wide selection of cell phones and accessories is made possible through the large quantities of cell phones that are purchased by these cell phone shopping outlets owners. Their stock is quite amazing too, because they will have every cell phone that is being offered in any retailing outlet for miles around, at prices that will astound even the most knowledgeable of cell phone users.

The quality customer service offered at these cell phone shopping outlets is provide by friendly people who are very knowledgeable about the items they sell to the public on a day-to-day basis. The customer service representatives might ask you a question or two about what you will use the cell phone for. This information will give them the opportunity to show you all of the cell phones that you can choose to specifically meet your cell phone calling needs.

There are business travelers that would benefit greatly from the Internet email access capabilities and other features offered on cell phones found in these cell phone shopping outlets. This Internet feature will keep the files at their office within reach when stored in their email. This method will also keep cost down, because accessing the Internet with a personal digital assistant (PDA) will cost them an initial purchase price of at least that cost over $500 to get the same Web and file access.

The accessories are another aspect that customers enjoy at these cell phone shopping outlets. At any given time, a customer can walk in and select a new cover for their cell phone that will give it new life and new meaning. An old cell phone can be given to teenagers to use, and they can adorn it with up-to-date styles and colors with a few case changes. This saves the family on their communication budget money. The money they save from shopping at the cell phone shopping outlets could allow them to purchase games, ringtones and accessories that they would normally not consider because of the cost associated with them.

A file association is the program that windows associate with a file. Windows will detect what type of file it is and then associate it with the appropriate program and launch the program when the file is opened. Once we are done with the files we delete the files but the programs remain in the system. The list of such programs builds up over time and we need a windows registry cleaner to clean the registry of these redundant files and programs.

Windows uses a system called ‘file association’ to open a file with the correct program that the file was created in. If a file has an extension .doc then windows knows that the file is a word document and uses file association to open the file in the Microsoft Word application. Or if the file has a .bmp extension then file association will open the file in Microsoft Paint by default.

All these associations are retained in the registry of the system and there will be many times that files are downloaded from the internet and they come with their own third party program to run them. Once we are done with the files we delete the files but the programs remain in the system. The list of such programs builds up over time and we need a windows registry cleaner to clean the registry of these redundant files and programs.

A file extension is a set of alphabetical characters, sometimes these are alphanumeric, and these are placed at the end of the file name after a period. These extensions are also attached to the various software on the system such as .exe, which means the file is an executable program. These extensions are used to determine the type of data stored in them as well as to distinguish the type of program. This information is recorded in the registry and needs to be cleaned with a windows registry cleaner regularly.

The registry gets crammed with useless programs and files. These files and redundant data and information do nothing other than slow down the system. It is important to clean the registry of these files and programs or entries as they are called. There are many registry cleaners on the Internet that can do a good job of cleaning the registry. Typing in a set of keywords such as ‘A must registry cleaner’, ‘free registry cleaner software’, ‘free XP registry cleaner’ in a search engine will produce results that can lead you to the appropriate registry cleaner software you are looking for.

Windows and computer operating systems have used Filename extensions for decades, but they have become popular because the file systems included with DOS and Windows had limitations on filenames for many years, which pushed the use of filename extensions.

It will help to download one of these free registry cleaner software for your system and run it on your computer from time to time. This will keep your computer running well and get rid of the sluggishness of the system. In fact, if you find that your system is running slower than usual it is time to download a registry cleaner and utilize it on your system and get the PC back on track.

Buying A Computer? Understand Your Options First

By Percy Kinney

Anyone who already owns a computer has a good idea of what his or her computer needs are. However, people new to the world of computers can get lost in the multitude of choices. Here you will find some tips to what a newcomer to computers should do and why.

1. Purchase Basic Peripherals

First your computer must include all the basic peripherals. There are four major components to most computers, these are the; mouse, keyboard, monitor and the CPU unit. You will have to purchase a computer that includes all of these components, and then at home all you have to do is to plug the components into their designated sockets. Many computers also come with color-coding, so that each component is easily identified and assembled into one computer.

2. Determine What The Computer Will Be Used For

Basic components as described above will be adequate for a computer intended for performing simple word-processing and spreadsheet tasks, sending email or surfing the internet. If on the other hand the computer is used in your multimedia career, you will require the use of a digital camera, printer, tablet, digicam and a scanner. If again your career is in music, you will require a set of quality speakers and microphones.

3. Create A Budget And Stick To It

Decide how much you can afford to spend on a new computer. Remember to purchase a computer where all the basic peripherals can be included in your budget when you first start out.

4. Shop By Comparing The Various Models With Each Other

Comparison-shopping is useful when choosing a computer, e.g. you may want to go with the fastest modem and processor as well as the largest hard drive and dynamic memory that fit into your budget. Having a computer with large spare reserves will cut the price to upgrade the computer system at a later stage.

5. Buy Brand Name Items

When purchasing a computer you want a model from a computer manufacturer with a good and long market presence and with a reputation of quality service and products. The manufacturer must also be financially viable since computer manufacturers tend to have a very high turnover. Only the best manufacturers make it over the long run. You want your manufacturer to be able to fulfill its servicing, warranties, trades and returns. Brand name computers are a bit more expensive, but it is in your best interest to buy well known brands.

6. Where to Buy a Computer

Once you have determined what you require in a computer as well as what kind you want, all that is left is to decide where to buy the computer. Computers are available from several sources such as, online stores, computer store outlets, used computer stores, auction sites and your local yard sales. It is highly recommended to buy your computer from a physical store, where you can see the computer and ask questions before purchasing. Buying a new computer from a physical store offers the benefits of store warranties and services as well as trades and returns.

Follow these suggestions and you will find the best computer hardware for your needs. All that remains now is to move on to the software you require for your computer.

(Buy traffic) Customize Windows XP for Speed

By Percy Kinney

Windows XP has lost of colours, themes and similar special effects to make your PC look great. These effects slow down your PC and that is the main problem.

If your computer is running slow, and you are sure you do not have a virus, spyware or adware you may try using some of these Win XP tweaks. The more special effects you remove the better.

Some of the effects that slow your PC are:

1. Pictures on the desktop background. A blank wallpaper is the best. Animations or even sounds in the background slow PC even more. Remove Shortcuts on the Desktop. This will be described further below as well.

Right click on My Computer icon and select properties. Go to Advanced Tab, and select Settings next to Performance. Finally select Adjust for best performance. Click OK twice. That is one of the best Win XP tweaks.

2. Is your browser by default plain, or did you install many extensions, themes and cursor symbols? Those slow down speed, so removing them is the best solution if you have a slow PC.

Switch to Windows Classic Theme by right clicking on Desktop and go to Properties.

3. Sounds also cause speed problems, so removing them is another good tweak. These include also startup and shutdown sounds. Remove sounds from your control panel. Double click on the Sounds icon.

4. A lot of MsWord, Notepad, Image and similar files scattered around on your desktop or located in shortcuts can be removed or arranged.

Create new folders, and organise your files. A folder for MsWord documents, images, sounds and Notepad files so you do not waste space.

Shortcuts on your desktop, in start menu and anywhere else can be removed to tweak XP. These are unwanted and are safe to be removed. You know if an icon is a shortcut or not because once you click delete you can read:

“Are you sure you want to delete this shortcut?”

5. Use the search tool to find unwanted files. WIn XP search tool allows you to search for certain file types. For example you can search for only images .gif or .jpg. You can find all the images on your PC, and remove all the unwanted image files.

Same with sound files, documents and you will be amazed about this stuff that has piled up during the years. A brand new computer does not need to search for these files.

Be careful though when using this tweak. Do not remove files you are not sure what their use is. Some files may be system files useful for your PC to work well.

Doing so can damage your PC.

6. Bookmarks or favorites inside your web browser have their negative side too. Same with cookies, cache and browser history.

Remove unwanted sites from your favorites. In Internet Explorer remove cache, cookies and history by selecting Tools, Internet Options and clicking the desired action.

In other browsers these options can also be tweaked from the menu which is usually under Tools. Remove these unwanted files often, or weekly. A weekly or more often job is clearing your recycle bin which helps cleaning wasted space.

Those 6 tweaks will organise your PC for a faster performance. It is the basic for XP users who suffer from slow speed. Even if your PC is not slow, some of the tweaks are still useful in the long run.

The Battle for The Top Hi-Def Games

By Percy Kinney

With Sony’s PlayStation 3 finally launched across the globe, the next-gen videogames wars can start in earnest. Microsoft already has a reasonable installed base for Xbox 360, but not enough to guarantee dominance, while Sony’s consumers’ brand loyalty is being tested to the limits by the PS3’s high price point.

Nintendo, meanwhile, has carved out a nice niche for itself by making next-gen not about hi-def, with its ridiculously named, but extremely popular Wii.

Within the industry though, most pundits are expecting a much more level playing field this time around, with Microsoft and Sony battling it out, but neither gaining significant domination over the other. This is, frankly put, a disaster for Sony whose PlayStation 2 console defined a generation, and not just of consoles.

What is the reason for this shift? One word: exclusivity. In the good old days, games publishers were convinced to launch their game on a single console, and then perhaps later allow it to grace the competitors’ machines, and so Lara boosted the original PlayStation and GTA helped the PS2 explode. With the next-gen, exclusivity is all but gone. GTA will launch on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 and Lara is two-timing the PlayStation all over the place. There are even rumours that Snake will turn tail and that Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In fact, the only games that remain exclusive to a format tend to be those developed by the console manufacturers themselves, first party games as they are known.

So, what do Microsoft and Sony have up their sleeve? Sony has a game called Heavenly Sword, which has games journalists very excited, but apart from this its near-future release schedule is quite embarrassing.

Microsoft on the other hand has a machine mature enough to be expecting its second-wave of titles, games which should really be starting to take advantage of the next-gen hardware (to date, only Gears of War has really shown its next-gen credentials to gamers). And its line up is looking OK, and not just first party: Bioshock, from 2K, Mass Effect, a highly anticipated game from Bioware, who can do no wrong, Halo 3 to arrive one month after GTA IV on both platforms - you don’t have a bucket big enough to describe how many bucketloads this game will sell, Fable 2, from the well-liked Lionhead Studio and then later more Project Gotham Racing and Halo action.

Essentially, this year Xbox 360 has some good triple A games, with 2 tent pole releases in GTA IV and Halo 3. Sony has GTA IV and Heavenly Sword and then many more third party, multi-platform games.

So, expect Microsoft to shift some units with their line up, but Sony will also be hoping for a GTA effect on its console. This pinkish, if not rosy, outlook for Microsoft could change next year though. Sony has more development staff than anyone else, and while it might be taking its time, you have to expect its first party games to start coming through.

All of this, of course, is only considering the games consoles as just that, and it remains to be seen what effect, if any, the Blu-Ray (PS3) vs HD-DVD (Xbox 360) hi-definition formats for videos have on sales.

Taking A Look At Computer Viruses

By Moses Holder

A computer virus is a malicious computer program that, when executed by an unsuspecting human, performs tasks that primarily include replicating itself and in some cases deploying a payload.

A decade or so ago, viruses were pretty simple. They got into a system and infected a file or two. It was a basic as ordering coffee when coffee was easy to order. “One coffee pleaseblack.”

Today, the catalog of viruses you have to defend yourself against is frighteningly complex. In fact, it’s become as complex as, well, ordering coffee.

“Looks like you’ve been infected by a dropper that’s put a Trojan on your system, which deployed a multi-partite that opened a backdoor and also infected the master boot record.”

Sounds like an order at Starbucks, don’t you think?

These days a discussion about a virus can actually occur without using the word virus because sometimes viruses are worms or Trojan horses, which are virus-like nasties that act a little different than their infectious cousins.

Why are they called computer viruses? Well, because they have similar characteristics to biological viruses that infect humansin at least one way. The computer variety jumps from computer to computer much like a cold virus jumps from your kids to you and from you to your spouse.

Don’t let all this frighten you, though. It’s not that hard to figure out and defending your computer against viruses is pretty straightforward. Still, if the idea makes you queasy, skip ahead to the part of the chapter about how to easily protect yourself from viruses. But I hope you stick around because the more you know, the geekier you will be. Okay, not really. But understanding them makes them much less scary.

Viruses were one of the first real security threats people had to deal with when personal computers started appearing in homes a couple of decades ago. The first computer viruses were written in the 1980s; however, they really didn’t become a big threat until the late 1990s when everyone who owned a personal computer started connecting to the Internet.

Before then viruses spread via floppy disks or CDs. They would ride on the back of files stored on a disk or in the boot area of the floppy and replicate when the disk was inserted into the computer.

The Internet’s popularity has also become the chief reason that security on personal computers has become such a hot topic. A Net connection is the off-ramp from the Internet into your computer for all data. And guess what? For viruses it’s an express lane.
